Chaminade University Montessori Lab School

Our 5 yr old daughter learned more in a half year at Chaminade University Montessori Lab School than she has in her previous 4.5 years of life! OK, I may be exaggerating a bit, but I really wanted to sing the praises of the incredible staff at CUMLS. My daughter comes home and asks when she can go to school next. She&#39;s constantly amazing us with her vocabulary. She actually taught me the definition of an archipelligo. Maybe she can teach me how to spell it too? What&#39;s truly important too is that this year&#39;s current crew of teachers are so loving to our kids. I can feel how much they care for the kids as if they are all Ohana. They grow herbs in their garden and my daughter brings home kalo chips, hummus, and other wonderful things that were from the things grown on campus. Extra Kudos to Kristie Sakai who provided a safe space for our keiki and gave us the flexibility to stay distanced during Covid and welcoming us when we were ready to go back to in-person learning. The logistics and coordination are not taken for granted. I&#39;m especially emotional about this fine school since this is our daughter&#39;s last day and she&#39;ll be moving on to a different school. Our many, many thanks to Ms. Claire, Ms. Megan, Ms. Veronica, and Ms. Kristie for their love and care of our most valued treasures. We will miss CUMLS!

This school is a little hidden gem, and we love love love it!   We appreciate the Montessori philosophy of a child-led teaching environment, and although some may think that is not enough structure and guidance for a young child we have seen our daughter thrive beyond our expectations.   Chaminade University Montessori is a lab school, and for me that was a huge positive because they would be seamlessly parallel to the Montessori philosophy.  One of my favorite things about this school is that they are tucked away on the quiet back corner of the Chaminade campus.  There is a wonderful outdoor space including playground, edibles garden, tricycle riding track, and more.  The interior classroom is clean and organized with multiple zones including a meditation/quiet/ peace corner, practical life skills area, and few art areas.   They incorporate the children in even preparing snacks, some of which are harvested from their outdoor garden that the children have started from their own germinated seeds. The staff are beyond amazing, just enough discipline and love to completely grow and nurture a beautiful confident child.  They are professional, engaging, and seamless with communication.  We see our child&#39;s progress online at any given time if a new lesson has been introduced or if she has mastered it.  We also get to see daily images of her learning and playing.  I&#39;ve been working from home and fortunate to be able to care for my daughter till she started school.  We did a month+ Waldorf Parent and Child classes, then she started at Chaminade.  My daughter is 3.5 years old, she just started during the COVID summer, so she&#39;s been there about 7-8 months, she knows how to write her first name, knows all nine planets, knows the continents, sings about evaporation/condensation/ precipitation, can use her scissors, cut her fruit with a butter knife, can dress herself, and knows most of her letter sounds.   I am not only impressed by the work these educators and administrators have done, but I am so very thankful we stumbled upon this school and chose to place our daughter in this beautiful environment.  This school is just a great decision.  Thank you Miss Kristy, Miss Claire, Miss Veronica, and Miss Meghan.
